The ‘Choose Europe for science’ initiative was launched earlier this month with a € 500 million funding package for 2025-2027. This package included additional funding to support start-up costs for ERC Advanced Grants, new ERC super grants that provide extended funding durations of seven years, and the MSCA Choose Europe for science pilot.

An additional € 230 million call is added under the Horizon Europe Work Programme 2026-2027. With this funding the European Commission will fund ERA Chairs in underperforming regions, hoping to bring in up to 120 high-level researchers.

Overview of European, national and regional funding opportunities

To help you navigate the variety of funding opportunities, the European Commission has published an overview of more than 60 funding and support schemes available across all EU member states. You can find a static overview in a document called ‘A snapshot of initiatives in the European Union to support researchers worldwide’. You can also visit the European EURAXESS website and browse through all options more dynamically. This website will be continuously updated.
