Moving from the Netherlands
Moving on to your next destination, or back to your home country, is an exciting event. We have put together an "exit checklist" that will help you keep track of a list of things that need to be done before moving out of the Netherlands.
Before you leave, don't forget the following:
-
Make sure you have arranged everything regarding accommodation: returned the key, paid all your bills, etc.
-
Drop by at your local town hall to cancel your registration with the municipality. Do this to avoid possible problems later on. Not doing so could mean that if you eventually come back to the Netherlands and apply for residence again, the computers may think you have been in the country illegally all that time.
-
Notify an international mover.
-
Contact housing agency /landlord regarding terminating your rental contract.
-
Notify (international) school (if applicable).
-
Notify doctor and dentist, collect medical records.
-
Notify telephone provider, cancel phone connection.
-
Cancel utility services (gas, water, light, cable, internet).
-
Notify Alien Police, return Dutch ID card.
-
Close bank accounts.
-
Cancel automatic payments (gym? cell phone?).
-
Notify the post office of change of address and your mail forwarding instructions.
-
Contact cleaners to clean house after moving out.
