Tell Europe how to improve the ERA

13 Oct 2011

Yes, there is another survey about improving research conditions. Perhaps you are tired of yet another survey, but input from you, Europe’s researchers, remains important. The European Union has set up an ambitious programme to create a European Research Area, resulting in a genuine single market for knowledge, research and innovation. Input from the field is very valuable, every step of the way.

The EC needs your help by improving the European Research Area

The European Member States want swift action to close the remaining gaps in completing the European Research Area (ERA) by 2014. To do so, the European Commission would like input from all stakeholders, including researchers, to help them decide which issues should be addressed as priorities when preparing the ERA Framework. The ERA Framework should be finalised by 2012 and will set out the focused, proportionate and effective measures to be taken to realise the ERA.

Key issues

The consultation aims to reinforce prioritise the Commission’s analysis of the key issues to be addressed in order to improve the European Research Area. Key issues as are now identified by the Commission are:

  • researchers' careers and mobility;
  • research infrastructures;
  • cross-border operation of research actors;
  • knowledge circulation;
  • international cooperation; and
  • cross-cutting governance issues.

Please provide your input by filling in the survey on the EC website. You can find more information about the consultation on the same site.
