This page is a brief introduction to The Netherlands: where it is and what it has on offer.

You will see that the Netherlands is divided into 12 provinces. Perhaps you have noticed that two of them are named North Holland and South Holland. These provinces are where the colloquial name "Holland" comes from for The Netherlands. So technically, "Holland" refers to this area of The Netherlands, even though, yes, it is today widely accepted to use the name for the entire country.
