When coming to the Netherlands as a scientific researcher it is likely that you will fit one of the 4 “purposes of stay” mentioned in the overview below.

Please bear in mind that although this overview gives you a general idea of the possible exemptions, it is not the

complete picture. Your HR officer should be able to give you an advice that is tailored to your specific situation. In most cases this officer will apply for the (provisional) residence permit for you, and won’t it be possible to arrange this yourself.
